This Valentine's Day try a Big Island Love and Romance Party. With good planning and creativity, a backyard or the beach can be turned into a romantic get-a-way for the evening. Start out with the invitations. Postcards with scenes of the beach at night with the moon shinning on the water and palm trees swaying in the ocean breeze make great invitations and they evoke the feeling of a romantic evening. Big Island Love and Romance is the type of theme that works well for an adult party. If the party is adults only then clearly state that on the invitation and send them out far enough in advance to give guests with kids a chance to arrange for a babysitter.
What would a Big Island Love and Romance party be without leis? As guests arrive, greeting them with leis and playing Hawaiian music should get them in the mood for a tropical paradise. Get several inflatable palm trees and on the day of the party put one in the front yard or at the front door to signal guests that they have the right address.
Set the scene for Love and Romance party that is Big Island style. Set several of the inflatable palm trees around the party area to make an island scene and set whole coconuts and pineapples near them. Set up one or two small tents or even patio umbrellas and tables; decorated with silk flowers and palm leaves to mimic a tiki bar. This is where the cocktails and mocktails can be made. Make sure the party supplies include the ingredients for wonderful island drinks. Have drinks that remind the guests of the islands like: A Pineapple Mist. For a Pineapple Mist mix 2 ounces of light rum and 3 ounces of pineapple juice together in a blender with ice. Garnish with a cherry and a drink umbrella. For a mocktail try a Virgin Mai Tai. Use 8 -10 ice cubes, 2 ounces of orange juice, 3 ounces of pineapple juice, 1 and a half ounces of prepared sweet and sour mix, and 1 dash of bitters. Shake all ingredients together with ice; garnish with fruit and a drink umbrella, this make two drinks.
Delicious island foods are always a part of tropical parties. Bring out the grill and grill up some pork ribs with grilled pineapple. Have side dishes that are Hawaiian recipes and have lots or tropical fruit.
